Ketemuan Alumni Oktober 2009

October 5, 2009 · 3 Comments

Ngumpul-ngumpul dan riyayan kemarin berlangsung cukup seru, krn bbrp teman ketemuan lagi setelah puluhan tahun. Aku nggak ingat pasti berapa orang yg datang krn sebagian nggak ngisi daftar hadir.

Ethnographic Research: A Key to Strategy

September 29, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Corporate ethnography isn’t just for innovation anymore. It’s central to gaining a full understanding of your customers and the business itself. The ethnographic work at my company, Intel, and other firms now informs functions such as strategy and long-range planning.

Ethnography is the branch of anthropology that involves trying to understand how people live their lives. Unlike traditional market researchers, who ask specific, highly practical questions, anthropological researchers visit consumers in their homes or offices to observe and listen in a nondirected way. Our goal is to see people’s behavior on their terms, not ours. While this observational method may appear inefficient, it enlightens us about the context in which customers would use a new product and the meaning that product might hold in their lives.

Anthropology: Education for the 21st Century

September 29, 2009 · Leave a Comment

There are two great reasons why studying anthropology should be considered by undergraduate and master’s students.
First, the material is intellectually exciting: anthropology students enthusiastically complete their courses of study.
Second, anthropology prepares students for excellent jobs and opens doors to various career paths: the course of study provides global information and thinking skills critical to succeeding in the 21st century in business, research, teaching, advocacy, and public service.

What Is Anthropology?

Anthropology is the study of human behavior. That exploration of what it means to be human ranges from the study of culture and social relations, to human biology and evolution, to languages, to music, art and architecture, and to vestiges of human habitation. It considers such fascinating questions as how peoples’ behavior changes over time, how people move about the world, why and how people from distant parts of the world and dissimilar cultures are different and the same, how the human species has evolved over millions of years, and how individuals understand and operate successfully in distinct cultural settings. Anthropology includes four broad fields–cultural anthropology, linguistics, physical anthropology and archaeology. Each of the four fields teaches distinctive skills, such as applying theories, employing research methodologies, formulating and testing hypotheses, and developing extensive sets of data.
